Discover Our Story

Friends believing that furniture was art.   That customers would desire unique, statement pieces designed and created locally.  That new and old could be featured together

And you responded to our dream!  In April of 2019 we launched Scrap Yard Surplus focusing on furniture and home decor sold online and out of our homes.  After just a few months we realized that we needed dedicated retail space and we opened our first storefront and shop in downtown Westfield.

Our initial location consisted of three buildings; all which required substantial work to transform into work shops and a sales floor.  We announced our first Pop-Up Sale scheduled for December 14-15, 2019 to introduce our new business to the community.

“Mann Tracht, Un Gott Lacht” is an old Yiddish adage meaning, “Man Plans, and God Laughs.”  Early on the morning of December 12th, we stood in freezing weather watching our workshop burn.  Much of our inventory, and all of our custom furniture was lost.  As a new venture must, our sale went on and we were encouraged that our vision could be a success.

It quickly became apparent that we were outgrowing our space and on February 15, 2020 we held a Moving Sale celebrating our growth and our final day at our first store.  On March 1 we moved into our new, much larger building located at 17377 Little Eagle Creek Ave in Westfield.

Unknowingly, we still had one final hurdle to overcome.  Prior to our Grand Opening in our new building, the COVID-19 pandemic closed non-essential retail stores in our state.  It is way too early to write the next chapter in our story, but recently we progressed from offering curbside pickup and delivery only to being able to open within specific guidelines.

We remain very excited about our initial dream which so many of you have now validated.  Furniture is art.  Our amazing Blue-eyed Gypsy Line showcases this daily.  We look forward to creating YOUR statement piece next!
